Drum Instructor Anne-Marie has been playing music since early childhood, beginning with piano lessons at age six. She began studying the guitar only a few years later and was immediately mesmerized. She threw herself into the instrument- studying jazz, classical, and popular styles. Also during this time period, Anne-Marie was a member of numerous award-winning vocal ensembles and choirs. At the age of 16 she started teaching both private piano and guitar lessons at The Texas Guitar Company in Houston. She has been teaching ever since- giving studio lessons, classroom setting classes, and home lessons. Anne-Marie graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2011 with High Honors. She graduated as a member of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society as well. She has over two decades of performance experience. She has played in a large number of ensembles, with which she has played festivals such as SXSW and Utopiafest, local shows, and private events. She is an active player in the Austin jazz community, specializing in jazz manouche, hot jazz, and Latin jazz. In 2020 she released a debut album "House of the Valley”, tracks from which have been played on local Austin radio shows and received multiple write-ups. Anne-Marie teaches her students to read standard notation in addition to guitar tab. He grew up in a musical household with a clawhamer banjo-playing father and a swing dancing mother. Will's first public performance occurred when he was just three years old, sitting in with a Zydeco band on scrubboard. As a teenager, Will immersed himself in Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. He often would play their music through his headphones while sleeping in the hope that he would acquire some of their greatness through osmosis (it didn't work). At thirteen, Will started attending a weekly blues jam session where he began to dip his toes in the waters of improvisation. In college, Will became infatuated with the music of Django Reinhardt and the genre known as gypsy jazz. After graduating, Will moved to Paris, France to learn from the some of greatest living gypsy jazz musicians. Will has taught master classes at guitar festivals (Django in June and Ashokan Guitar Camp) and toured with internationally recognized gypsy jazz musicians (Denis Chang and Tcha Limberger). Growing up, Grahame played in multiple bands and a jazz orchestra that toured around the U.K. and Europe. During this time, he had the opportunity to record at the famous Abbey Road studios and a feature performance at Royal Albert Hall in London. Upon finishing university studies for drums and music business at the prestigious Academy of Contemporary Music outside of London, Grahame spent many years working and leading bands on luxury cruise ships. During this time, he experienced travel in over 115 countries while backing many influential artists such as Louis Shelton, Melissa Manchester, Siobhan Phillips and Toni Warne. Grahame was also the featured drummer in a project for Post Modern Jukebox. I moved from Santa Barbara to Austin about a year ago to pursue a musical career with my sister and our band Let Flo Go. I perform locally and have played over 100 shows in California and Austin. Having studied music and performed professionally for years, I have developed and refined my curriculum on how to control, project, and protect your voice when singing. I also love playing the ukulele and find it to be an excellent way to introduce young or inexperienced players to the world of stringed instruments. For those new to the guitar, I help develop a strong foundation by teaching rhythm, strumming, chords, understanding tabs, etc- everything you need in order to no longer need me! My strongest goal in teaching music is to show my students just how exciting and fun music can be, whether they want to perform professionally or simply sound better during karaoke. She was the only musical one of her family, but took this in stride as she learned piano, cello, and voice as a child. April has always put music at the forefront of her life. Since she was young, she was in multiple choirs, orchestras, symphonies, and performed in many theater productions. Although April has only been in Austin for a short time, she can be found this summer gigging with her band, Missed Connections, where she plays keys and does lead vocals. April has been teaching piano since she was old enough to teach. Growing up, she would often teach piano to the children at church, which is what prompted her to keep teaching in her adult life. Throughout college, April volunteered at a low income elementary school to teach piano and music. April works as a teacher at Fusion Academy in the Westlake area, which specializes in one-on-one teaching and individualized learning plans. She now works with older kids (ages 9-19), but also loved her job as a preschool teacher in Bee Cave last year! She has plenty of experience working with kids, but is open to teaching any age. She is also the recipient of the 2016 AAFAA Distinguished Pedagogy Award, certified piano teacher having passed grade 8 ABRSM Practical with “Distinction,” winner of the CACA Young People’s Competition back in 2002, and has adjudicated for several ADMTA Festivals. Ms. Leslie is super patient, understanding, and flexible in her teaching style. While catering to her students’ needs, she also pushes them to their full potential and encourages everyone to set annual goals of taking part in the studio winter/spring recitals, ABRSM practical, performance grade, and theory exams, any state, national, and even international festivals, auditions, and competitions, all highly useful as credit for college admissions and resume-building! Her students have received “Distinction” for both ABRSM practical exams and performance grades. Outside of weekly lessons, Ms. Leslie’s students are also encouraged to contact her directly with any questions and send any recordings for feedback. Always remember, to become well-rounded musicians, students should expect the curriculum to include repertoire-building (playing your favorite pieces), ear-training, sight-reading, doing rhythmic exercises, theory, technique-building, and of course, consistent practice. In high school, Ethan took lessons from Grammy award winning guitarist David Pulkingham. Ethan received accolades his senior year as both the Choral Student and Guitar Student of the Year. Ethan received a Bachelor’s in Music from the Butler School with a concentration in Electronic Composition. In college he received additional vocal and piano training and completed significant coursework in jazz studies. Ethan is usually in several musical projects at once and has over fifteen years of experience touring the United States as a singer, guitarist, pianist, bassist, and drummer.
